Current Openings

Tax Manager
The Tax Manager is responsible for helping to ensure the integrity and quality of the Firm’s tax compliance products as well as consulting and planning projects. Also, this position will be responsible for the day-to-day completion of tax work and for the development of the tax staff and will be responsible for completion of annual reviews and special projects.  The Tax Manager reports to the Tax Partners of the Firm. Reporting to the Tax Manager will be various tax staff assigned to the Tax Manager’s projects and departmental responsibilities. This person will help to lead the tax staff  through the oversight of tax compliance projects and will be responsible for developing strong relationships with clients, partners and staff of the Firm.

Qualifications:

  • College degree in accounting, finance, business, or other applicable field.
  • Master’s Degree in Tax is strongly preferred but not required.
  • Minimum of seven years experience working in public accounting in a tax compliance capacity.
  • CPA Certification Required – Certified Public Accountant (CPA).
  • Excellent understanding of the Internal Revenue Code and Regulations and ability to apply in performing tax compliance and planning duties.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills including ability to interact with the partners, staff and clients.
  • Advanced understanding of Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint and Word and familiarity with tax compliance software.
  • Effective leadership skills to supervise, lead, and develop others.
  • Proven track record of success in managing and training tax staff.
  • A history of developing/driving improvements.
  • Previous experience in managing a team of professionals.
  • Must possess personal and business integrity with an energetic style demonstrated by a positive attitude and a strong work ethic.
  • Assertive, self-directed and proactive with political wisdom and discerning judgment.
  • Superior planning and organizational skills with a strong aptitude for detail.  This should be coupled with a polished presentation style.
  • Ability to earn the trust of others, be non-political and can couple this with the ability to stand their ground in a positive manner on important matters.
  • Strong interpersonal and analytical skills, coupled with the ability to remain independent and be tactful in dealing with conflicts.
  • Must have strong planning and organizing skills and must be able to achieve desired business results, facilitate change and lead the tax staff in demanding and sometimes challenging situations.
  • Personal qualities of integrity, honesty, optimism, confidentiality, discretion, flexibility, adaptability, leadership and patience.

Responsibilities:

  • Extensive understanding of tax law and regulations including the IRC and Regulations.
  • Provides input into strategy setting and policy development impacting the tax function.
  • Assists the Tax Partners in managing tax staff and in the planning, organizing, directing, and monitoring of the tax compliance function, including assisting in hiring, training, and evaluating staff, and taking effective actions to address performance matters.
  • Ensuring overall quality, consistency and adherence to department and professional standards for tax compliance projects, and identifying opportunities for tax process improvement through an ongoing quality evaluation process including documentation support.
  • Manage complex engagements and actively participate in the completion of tax projects.
  • Provide staff performance evaluation, coaching and counseling.
  • Maintain current knowledge of changes in tax laws and regulations.

 

Senior Tax Accountant
Sproles Woodard LLP is seeking candidates for Senior Tax Accountant.  A successful candidate will have completed 2-5 years in the practice of public accountancy where they were responsible for all aspects of federal and state tax compliance, tax planning and analyzing tax law.  An ideal candidate will possess the desire to become involved in all aspects of public accounting, have strong analytical skills, excellent oral and written communication skills and have the ability to learn new skills.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting (Masters in Tax strongly preferred)
  • 2 – 5 years prior public accounting experience
  • CPA certification or candidacy
  • A strong attention to detail and commitment to providing quality work
  • Ability to work within a team environment required with excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong organizational skills
  • Ability to multi-task and prioritize in a fast-paced environment

Tax Staff Accountant
Sproles Woodard LLP is seeking candidates for Tax Staff Accountant.  A successful candidate will have completed 0-2 years in the practice of public accountancy.  An ideal candidate will possess the desire to become involved in all aspects of public accounting, have strong analytical skills, excellent oral and written communication skills and have the ability to learn new skills.

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting (Masters in Tax strongly preferred)

Client Bookkeeper
Sproles Woodard LLP is seeking candidates for Client Bookkeeper.  A full-time position who reports to the managers and Partners of Sproles Woodard, LLP.  As an integral part of our team, you will contribute to our commitment to excellence in corporate accounting, tax preparation, auditing services, and financial planning.  Join us in fostering strong relationships, both within and outside the firm, as we work collaboratively to provide top-tier CPA representation for the mutual success of our clients and ourselves.

Responsibilities:

  • Manage all aspects of the accounting cycle, including Accounts Receivable and Accounts Payable
  • Process forms and bills related to accounts receivable and accounts payable, ensuring accuracy and proper classification
    • Handle accounts payable transactions, issuing payments for vendor bills
    • Accurately post and classify daily receivable transactions, maintaining comprehensive records
  • Perform monthly bank and credit card account reconciliation
  • Class and Job Tracking
  • Assist in various operational areas, including Sales Tax, State and Federal Payroll tax, and annual information return filing for small businesses
  • General accounting administrative tasks, organization, and filing
  • Perform other general office duties as needed

Qualifications:

  • Solid understanding of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP)
  • Minimum 3-4 years of accounting experience with an academic background in finance, accounting, or business
  • Excellent computer skills, including proficiency in Microsoft Word/Excel
  • Proficient in QuickBooks Pro software; experience with Shopify, Vend, Intuit, and other merchant services preferred
  • Professional demeanor with excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Responsible and self-managed with strong follow-up and tracking skills
  • Demonstrates accuracy, attention to detail, and effective organization with multitasking abilities
  • Independent worker capable of planning and prioritizing workflow
